Elastocalorics

A Disruptive Cooling & Heating Technology

In view of climate change and energy shortages, the need for innovative cooling and heating solutions has never been more pressing.

Elastocalorics is a solid-state-based cooling and heating technology that offers a sustainable alternative to conventional cooling systems without climate-damaging refrigerants. In fact, it is having zero climate impact and a significantly high energy efficiency: it is far more efficient than today’s conventional air conditioning technologies.

Recognized by the US Department of Energy and the European Commission as the most promising alternative to existing technologies, Elastocalorics has also earned its place among the Top 10 Emerging Technologies of 2024 as voted by the World Economic Forum.

It is based on the unusual heating and cooling properties of certain materials – like shape memory alloys (SMA) made of Nickel-Titan. Simple mechanical loading and unloading of superelastic shape memory alloys releases or absorbs large amounts of latent heat due to phase transformation in the crystal lattice structure. This process can be used to generate temperature differences up to 40 degrees.

Elastocalorics opens up promising applications in different areas for cooling and heating technology or energy recovery. Our aim is to bring the potential of this technology to all relevant fields of application in the future, for example in building air conditioning, industrial cooling, e-mobility and the household appliance sector.

Join us on our journey to unlock the full potential of Elastocalorics and pave the way for a more sustainable future in thermal management!
